NANCY MATHER
JEWELLER BASED IN THE UK
I am a UK based, jeweller working primarily in brass and copper. I enjoy manipulating mixed metals to freely experiment with form, texture and scale - particularly through foldforming soldered sheet.
As a maker, I am inspired by the past and our links with it; be that the ruins of an imposing structure or the small imperfections left by people years ago, I am fascinated by the way that people throughout time have left their marks on our world. The work I create is an attempt to close that distance between us and the past, connecting to personal and general history, while not losing my own sense of style and decoration.
My work is currently exploring historical designs, that I have taken and manipulated into complex three-dimensional objects, particularly the spiral embellishments found on many Iron Age pieces.

About Me.
I am a metalsmith and jeweller from the Midlands, working predominantly in brass and copper. I studied at the University for the Creative Arts and am continuing to grow my practice as an authentic and expressive designer-maker. My goal as a maker is to create small series of works that encapsulates a historic and imaginative idea, that people can connect with and wear as a much-loved piece.
Coming from a creative family, I have always been encouraged and celebrated being able to create anything with my hands, I find that through making you can connect with others in unique ways, and it is a pleasure to share what I have created with others.
